FC Barcelona have clawed their way back to the top of La Liga table and look to progress further in the Champions League this evening. The attacking trio of Suarez, Messi and Neymar is becoming the most feared across Europe and the results recently back up that title.
We take a look at Barcelona’s recent attacking form and where it sits in relation to some of Europe’s other best attacking teams and compared to their opponents on Wednesday evening.
THE ULTIMATE FORM GUIDE
The infographic below shows you how the two teams match up in their stats from their last 10 games. The yellow boxes to the left or right show you which team has performed better in that particular category.
Barcelona have scored a stunning 36 goals in their last 10 fixtures and across Europe’s biggest teams this is the highest number of goals scored. Only Bayern Munich are up there (also with 36); behind that you have to drop all the way to Wolfsburg with just 24 goals. No other European side is within 12 goals of Barcelona (and Bayern Munich) and although some will argue that other domestic leagues are more competitive this is nevertheless an impressive scoring record.
Barcelona beat Bayern (and every other team) on the conversion rate, with 27% of their total shots turning into goals while Pep’s new team sit just behind on 24%. There are only two teams currently to consider for the title of Europe’s best attacking outfits and we would contend that Barcelona nudge it due to their superior conversions rate and superior 1st goal rate to Bayern.
Next up for the Barcelona attack is Manchester City who suffered an embarrassing defeat to relegation threatened Burnley at the weekend. To put Barcelona’s attacking stats further into context, City have scored just 13% of their total shots and scored less than half the number of goals in their last 10 fixtures.
This will simply be another chance for Barcelona to prove their attacking prowess on the biggest stage of them all.
