It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the hostel at about 1am, ransacked the entire 20-room hostel and carted away about 10 laptops, 20 mobile phones, cash and other personal belongings of the graduate students.
One of the postgraduate students said “Some of us were deeply asleep after reading, while some of our colleagues were still working on their dissertations.
“Suddenly, we heard a hard kick on the fragile door to the hostel and the next thing was a group of armed-men pointing guns and ordering everyone to remain calm with faces downward throughout the over one hour the operation lasted.
“The gunmen took away my new phone, cash and my laptop containing essential documents including parts of my dissertations and research work that I have been working on since the last five years.”
One of the female students, who was hit with the butt of a gun, said the robbers made away with her research materials stored in her laptops and other personal effects, including cash.
Another student said the case of hostels’ attack by hoodlums was becoming too rampant on the campus, recalling that a similar incident occurred few days back.
