Real Madrid Is The Top Ranked Team In Europe

Real Madrid currently top the standings with 167 points followed by their La Liga rivals Barcelona, who are the current Champions League title holders. Bundesliga side Bayern Munich make up the top three, after they won the competition the previous season.

The club rankings are based on the results of clubs competing in the five previous seasons of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The rankings determine the seeding of each club in all UEFA competition draws. Clubs pick up points for each round of the two competitions, which is also determined by how far they go in either the Champions League or Europa League - as sides will earn more points the further they advance.

Over the past five seasons Chelsea have been the 4th most consistent team in Europe, and are some way ahead of 5th placed Atletico Madrid. The London side have earned 142 points for their last five years of European participation, during a period in which they have won the Champions League and the Europa League. They are the highest ranked Premier League side with Arsenal being their closest challenger in 9th, but they have some way to go to catch the top two.
