5 Things Wenger will Speak On, In Pre-Match Press Conference

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will take part in his pre-match press conference later this morning ahead of their home game against Everton at the weekend, and we expect him to discuss five things in particular.

With one foot out of the door in the Champions League following the Gunners’ 3-1 defeat to Ligue 1 side Monaco on Wednesday night, Arsene Wenger is sure to be probed on his side’s terrible display and why – once again – his defence fell apart due to naivety. His central defensive pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are as experienced a pair as you’d like but their decisions on Wednesday night to push forward and leave huge gaps left the Gunners exposed and they were punished.

Meanwhile, despite picking up possibly the easiest draw in the round of 16, Wenger once again finds himself staring down at elimination from the competition so is now under a lot of pressure. With the Gunners in third place in the Premier League and likely to make the top four again, the supporters will want a bit more and that requires beating the likes of Monaco at home to make it through to the last eight of the Champions League. Arsenal have been unlucky in previous years with games against Bayern Munich twice, Barcelona and AC Milan but Wenger is now under huge pressure to deliver after stumbling at the smallest of hurdles.

In brief, here is what we expect Arsene Wenger to discuss in his press conference:

1. Defeat to Monaco
2. Pressure on his job
3. General injury/fitness update
4. Olivier Giroud – will he return to the starting XI?
5. Romelu Lukaku’s form
