Doctor Samuel Okpara, who was kidnapped on February 18 from his hospital at D-Line area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State has died in the hands of his abductors.
Both the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and Rivers State Police Command had confirmed his death.
It is gathered that his body was found behind Government Comprehensive Secondary school, Borokiri in old Port Harcourt City area.
This was even as the kidnappers of the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chibuike Amaechi, Mr. Freddy Ndigbara, were demanding N100 million ransom before they could release him.
Confirming the death of Okpara, the state Chairman of NMA, Dr. Furo Green, said his corpse was found behind the Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri, Port Harcourt, where his abductors dumped it.
He said the association had declared a seven-day mourning for their late colleague, with effect from Monday, March 2.
Ironically, as the press conference was going, a report came that another medical doctor had survived a kidnap attempt in Emohua area of the state. The doctor, whose identity could not be ascertain at press time, it was gathered, escaped through the help of some youths in the area.
He however sustained bullet wounds and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Green also announced that two of their colleagues, who had been in the den of kidnappers, had regained their freedom.
