Nigeria's Presidential Election has come and gone. Winner has emerged,President-elect and looser is known. With the way the election was conducted, what if President Jonathan did not magnanimously concede defeat, and the country was thrown into violence with the attendant destruction of valuable lives and properties, Would Obama still have awarded Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commision (INEC), Prof. Jega Certificate of Competence?
Was President Obama not aware that in the southern part of the country, massive rigging was the order of the day and in many polling units, results sheets were missing. Is that the new definition of Competence?
Was President Obama not aware that in the Northern part of the country, underage voters were the ones who cast vote. Is that the updated meaning of competence?
Was President Obama not aware that the much talked about card reader machines failed woefully in almost all the polling units, in such a manner that it was a national disgrace when the card reader machines (four in number) refused to recognize the incumbent President. I dare to ask, Is that Competence?
Was President Obama not heard that some of the trained INEC staff at the polling units were replaced by political agents. That is still competence on the part of Prof. Jega.
Not to mention results that circulated everywhere in the country even before the results were announced by the respective States.
Certificate of Competence should have been awarded to Nigerians because in spite of all the hate speeches, in spite of the tension, in spite of the politically motivated killings, in spite of bomb detonation,in spite of the adverse conditions around the country, Nigerians trusted in God and did the needful knowing that there is no other country for them than Nigeria.
