Nigeria is supposed to be a circular state. The governorship and State Houses of Assembly election hold on 11/05/2014. In the Presidential election, the voting pattern was so disturbing because it was along religious and ethnic divide. The governorship election is a different kettle of fish entirely, as this is the government that is closer to the people in the State. They largely reside in the state, unlike those of President and national assembly members whose offices are in Abuja.
Voting pattern in the governorship election across the country will largely depend on the candidates put forward by the political parties. Not even the political party at the center will influence the voting pattern in different States.
There is need for Nigerians to rise above the problems associated with primordial cleavages in the governorship and state assembly election. Political violence and killings must not be part of the elections. The peace accord in the presidential election should trickle down to the state.
INEC should maintain high standard. They should be neutral and impartial in their conducts. Erring staff should be sanctioned appropriately. They are tasked to deepen Nigeria democracy by making the people's votes count.
