Manslaughter: 45-Year-Old Driver In Police Net

The Police has charged a 45 year old driver Kolawole Adeyemo to a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, sitting on Lagos Island over alleged manslaughter.

The prosecutor Inspector Livinus Okeke, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on January 30 in Lagos.

The prosecutor said the offence committed is punishable under Sections 19 and 20 of the road traffic act cap 27 vol 45 laws of Lagos state, 2012.

Section 19 of the road traffic act prescribes a fine of N100,000 or two years imprisonment or both for reckless driving, while section 20 prescribes seven years imprisonment for causing death by reckless driving.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate M. L. Owolabi granted the defendant N300,000 bail, with two responsible sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to March 16 for mention.
